Who We Are

Breathe Deep was founded in 2015 as a collaborative effort between a few farmers, a land trust,  and a group of aligned funders.

The intention for our work was to regenerate the land, connect with other producers in the Hudson Valley, and build a regenerative grain corridor in Claverack County. We worked with Ben Dobson of Stone House Grain to get the farm up and running and transition our land to certified Organic. In 2018, Chris Cashen, a Claverack native and seasoned organic vegetable farmer, took over the operation. Chris and his wife, Katie Smith, own and operate the Farm at Miller’s Crossing, a diversified Organic farm that sells produce, maple products, and pasture-raised meat.

Through partnerships with neighboring landowners, we now farm over 735  acres. We are proud to stand alongside groups like Patagonia and Dr. Bronner’s as one of the first operations in the world to be certified as Regenerative Organic.

Our land is home to abundant wildlife and rich soils. Part of our vision for the farm has always been to preserve it. Thanks to the Columbia Land Conservancy and Scenic Hudson, we are doing just that. In 2018, we closed on a conservation easement to protect all 400 acres of our home farm for future generations of farmers.

We are grateful to call the Hudson Valley home. We invite you to explore this region and get to know and care for it as we have.
